How to Host

  • Connect with potential guests through our referral system, ensuring a diverse and dynamic group at your table. Use our platform to track invitations and RSVPs, making your hosting experience seamless and straightforward."

Each city has two leads, one from the funding community and one from a local community based organization. Working together and with support from Potlucks for Change network of referral partners you create a list of guests for your city. Potlucks for Change provides you the platform for managing those contacts with a privacy-centric approach that respects your relationships.

  • Create a brave and inviting space where all guests feel valued and heard. Guide the evening's flow, from the welcoming moment to the closing thanks, ensuring a comfortable and inclusive atmosphere."

  • Conversational

"Facilitate an evening where conversation takes center stage. Arrange your space to encourage dialogue, allowing every voice to be heard and every opinion considered."

We recommend limiting participation to 10 people or less to ensure a balanced conversation and the opportunity for everyone to get to connect.

    Content

Provide informative materials or presentations as conversation starters, deepening the understanding of Reproductive Freedom issues and enhancing the dining experience.

Examples: Bringing in a guest speaker can give a focus to the conversation and an opportunity for learning more about the perspective and work of other community leaders.

Ex. We invited author Sabia Wade, the Black Doula, to come to a dinner where we read her book Birthing Liberation and all were encouraged to better understand the experience of black mothers and the risks they face in childbirth.

Ex. We hosted a dinner with Rasha and the team at Ipas to learn more about building sustainable abortion ecosystems.

Ex. We hosted an early screening of the PLAN C Documentary and were joined by the founders of Plan C Amy Merrill and Elisa Wells to learn more about the progress since the fall of Roe to create access to medicated abortions across the country.

  • Ensure a mix of guests who bring diverse perspectives and experiences, enriching the conversation and broadening the collective understanding of Reproductive Freedom.

With Potlucks for change we seek to connect those with capital (financial, social, technical) to community based organizations that can unlock significant impact with more resources. For each dinner we strive for the following mix to support moving resources to create meaningful change:

    • 50% those who deploy capital

    • 30% proximate leaders

    • 20% valuable strangers

Valuable strangers are folks who have unique perspectives that are not commonly connected to the reproductive justice movement and who can expand the social capital of the community.

  • Diffusing Tense Conversations

Learn techniques to gracefully navigate and diffuse any tense moments, ensuring the discussion remains constructive and inclusive.

    Recruiting Dinner Hosts

Expand our community by inviting friends and acquaintances to host a Potlucks for Change dinner. As a city leads you would host the first 2-3 dinners between the two of you. Then from the first rounds of participants recruit dinner hosts who can open their homes (or offices) as venues for future dinners.

    Plug into the Local Scene

Connect with local groups and activists to ground your potluck in the community's current needs and dynamics, making every conversation relevant and actionable.

    Cleaning Up After Dinner

Efficiently manage post-event clean-up, leaving your space as warm and welcoming as when the guests arrived, ready for the next gathering. At the dinners that have been hosted over the last two years, guests participate in cleaning up after the dinner ensuring that we are not leaving the host with a big mess to deal with when everyone goes home.
